CV Writing Tips

Before applying for any vacancy you need to be certain your CV is up to standard, many good candidates have lost out on jobs because of their CV. By following these simple steps you can enhance your chances of getting noticed by employers and agencies:

Keep it neat and concise, use clear fonts, think about the layout - how easy is it to read and do the key points stand out? Try to use bullet points instead of long paragraphs. Two or three pages in length is standard and don't forget to proof read and spell check!

Summary / Personal Profile - at the top of the first page, this is a paragraph where you can emphasise your key achievements and an opportunity to sell yourself.

Be positive, focus on achievements and provide examples e.g. completed a project on time and under budget
Include relevant information; a CV should include; name, address, telephone number / email, summary / personal profile, qualifications and training, career history and interests. Try to think about what will be relevant to the job you are applying for, where appropriate re-write a CV for different applications.

Be honest, exaggerate to get an interview and there is a good chance you will be found out, always explain gaps in work history
